ISTE Coaching Standard & Indicator 2a: Coach teachers in and model design and implementation of technology-enhanced learning experiences addressing content standards and student technology standards.
In collaboration with the K-6 STEM Specialist, we created a STEM Integration course for elementary teachers. The course was developed around the new Washington State Computer Science Standards that were recently adopted. One goal was to introduce the principles so teachers could identify possible ways they could be cross-walked in other content area curriculum. Another goal was to introduce computation thinking language that could also be integrated in content areas. The coaching cycle continued with participant follow-up introducing coding through Code.org as well as teaching “unplugged” activities with their students. We are encouraged that there are more teachers interested and we will again offer the course next school year.
