ISTE Coaching Standard & Indicator 2b: Coach teachers in and model design and implementation of technology-enhanced learning experiences using a variety of research-based, learner-centered instructional strategies and assessment tools to address the diverse needs and interests of all students.
Makerspaces are designed around research that promotes student centered design, exploration, and problem-solving. Students developing skills like perseverance, curiosity, independence, inquiry, and teamwork are the reasons why I helped establish a school Makerspace program. Because Makerspaces are learner centered, needs and interests of all learners are met through different materials, activities, designs, and outcomes. Big6 is a research-based inquiry model designed to be an effective and methodical way students develop inquiry and critical thinking skills. I use Big6 in my instruction of the inquiry process with my students. The blog post below shows my competency in how I adapted Big6 with 21st Century learning skills.
