ISTE Coaching Standard & Indicator 2c: Coach teachers in and model engagement of students in local and global interdisciplinary units in which technology helps students assume professional roles, research real-world problems, collaborate with others, and produce products that are meaningful and useful to a wide audience.
Learningpalooza, a district professional learning day, allowed district teachers to self-select workshops pertinent to their teaching. One of the workshops I led explored how teachers can use technology to learn outside the classroom, solve real-world problems, and collaborate with others. The session included a rich discussion about the need for investing in globally connected classrooms. At the end of our practice session on using Google Hangout, teachers then created their own plan for using technology to expand the classroom walls.
The following blog post provides evidence in how I coached a teacher to design social studies learning activities to include tasks that are engaging, standards-based, plus help students with problem-solving process and communicate with remote groups.
