ISTE Coaching Standard & Indicator 3g. Use digital communication and collaboration tools to communicate locally and globally with students, parents, peers and the larger community.
As a Digital Learning Specialist, I make sure teachers know the different digital resources and how to use them to support global collaboration and communication. First and foremost, I provide guidance to teachers on why it’s important we ensure students are effective global communicators of ideas and information. The following examples show I am proficient in ISTE coaching standard 3g:
First grade teachers wanted a way to present their students poetry to family as well as students in another state. Using Flipgrid, students were able to practice reading their poem and then record their reading. Sharing their link to families and other class is easy and an effective way to receive feedback and gain an audience.
A high school language arts teacher wanted a way for her ELL students to compile information from experts for their first ever genius hour project. After meeting, we decided Flipgrid was an effective way to transmit the messages while allowing her students communication practice. Students were motivated to hear from others and were determined to give their best effort which they did!
In the following blog post, read how I instigated teacher and students to use blogging as a way to contribute questions and ideas for book studies.
