ISTE Coaching Standard & Indicator 4a: Conduct needs assessments to inform the content and delivery of technology-related professional learning programs that result in a positive impact on student learning.
I developed a needs assessment survey for our district teachers this past spring regarding the use of our on-line databases. I specifically wanted to find out how familiar teachers were on just knowing the databases. I also felt it important we find out how the databases are being used. Our instructional technology department is using the data to focus our professional development opportunities for next school year. Our big take-aways is that staff want more direction on specific curricular tie-ins. We will work with our content area specialists so they too can become more familiar with the offerings thus can support the curricular content.
The blog post below shows how I understand the importance for a program needs assessment. I am interested in our department undergoing ISTE’s diagnostic tool, “Lead and Transform” which generates a report based on how ISTE Standards are implemented and how technology planning and roll-out is going based on 14 elements conditions.
